How to highlight words in the transcript

Updated

Short answer

On the Transcription page, select the words you want to mark with your mouse and click Highlight, in the bar that appears over the selection. The arrow next to it picks the color, and each color can get a name. Then Filters shows only the lines with a highlight, and the Download menu downloads your highlights. Highlighting is part of Studio and Agency.

Optional steps

You don't need these steps to finish the task. Use them if you want.

  • OptionalPick another color

Click the arrow next to Highlight (Highlight color) and choose Green, Pink, Blue or Orange. The words are highlighted in that color, and the Highlight button keeps the last color you picked.

  • OptionalRemove the highlight or change its color

If the selection goes past the highlight, the bar shows Highlight again, and the new highlight covers the whole selection, replacing the old one.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between a highlight and a favorite?

A favorite marks the whole passage, with the star. A highlight marks only the words you selected, in a color. One doesn't change the other: you can use both in the same file.

Does highlighting use plan hours?

No. Hours count the length of the material you upload for processing.

Which plans can highlight?

Highlighting is part of Studio and Agency. On Pro, the Highlight button shows a lock.

Do highlights show on the Emotions page?

Yes. Highlights belong to the file: they show on Transcription and on Emotions, and you can highlight on both pages.

Are highlights saved?

Yes, they stay in the file and show up when you come back. Color names apply to all your files.
