Markers to YouTube chapters from Premiere, DaVinci or Final Cut straight to your description.

This tool turns Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro markers into the chapter list YouTube reads from your description. Paste or drop the exported file, an SRT or lines with a time and a title. We check YouTube's rules (0:00 first, at least 3, 10 seconds each) and you copy the result.

How to export markers from Premiere Pro

With the sequence open and the timeline in focus, go to File > Export > Markers. Premiere offers CSV, text and HTML, and any of them works here. Despite the name, Premiere's CSV separates columns with tabs and lists each marker's name, description, in, out, duration and type. Older versions save it as UTF-16 and newer ones as UTF-8: we read both.

If you set your chapters to the Chapter Marker type (double-click a marker to change it), the tool can use only those and leave out comment markers such as audio or color notes. A marker with no name uses its description as the title. We also read the sequence XML (File > Export > Final Cut Pro XML), which already carries the frame rate and the start timecode.

Marker Name	Description	In	Out	Duration	Marker Type

DaVinci Resolve and Final Cut Pro: where the markers live

In DaVinci Resolve, right-click the timeline in the Media Pool and choose Timelines > Export > Timeline Markers to EDL. Each marker becomes a line with its color, name and duration. Resolve timelines start at 01:00:00:00, so we remove that hour for you; if yours starts somewhere else, type the start timecode. If you use one color for chapters and others for notes, filter by color.

In Final Cut Pro, a chapter is a marker type: press M to add a marker and switch it to a chapter marker in the marker window. Export with File > Export XML. Recent versions save a .fcpxmld package: right-click it, choose Show Package Contents and use the Info.fcpxml inside. We read chapter markers and standard markers, already placed on the timeline.

YouTube's rules for chapters to show up

YouTube only turns your description into chapters when the list follows four rules: the first time is 0:00, there are at least three chapters, every chapter lasts 10 seconds or more, and the times go in ascending order. If any rule fails, the progress bar stays in one piece and you get no warning.

The tool lists each rule with its result. When the first marker falls within the first 10 seconds, it moves to 0:00; when it is later, we add an Intro chapter at the start. Markers on the same second become one, and you can remove chapters that are too short. The last chapter runs to the end of the video, so make sure it lasts at least 10 seconds.

How to paste into YouTube and take chapters back to your editor

In YouTube Studio, open the video, go to Details and paste the list into the description, one chapter per line. Save and open the video: the progress bar is split, with each part's title. Chapters you write in the description replace YouTube's automatic chapters.

The conversion works the other way too. From the finished list, download an XML for Premiere Pro (File > Import creates a sequence with one marker per chapter), a CSV in the same layout as Premiere's own export, or a marker EDL for DaVinci Resolve. So when a client sends timestamps in an SRT or a list, you see the chapters on your timeline before you cut.

Frequently asked questions

How do I export markers from Premiere Pro?

With the sequence in focus, go to File > Export > Markers and pick CSV, text or HTML. The file lists each marker's name, description, in, out, duration and type. Paste or drop it here and you get the chapter list in YouTube's format.

Why are my YouTube chapters not showing?

Almost always a YouTube rule failed: the first time is not 0:00, there are fewer than three chapters, one is shorter than 10 seconds, or the times are out of order. The tool checks all four rules and shows which one to fix before you publish.

How do I export markers from DaVinci Resolve?

In the Media Pool, right-click the timeline and choose Timelines > Export > Timeline Markers to EDL. Paste the EDL here. We remove the 01:00:00:00 start for you, and you can keep only the markers of one color.

Does it read Final Cut Pro FCPXML?

Yes. Export with File > Export XML. We read chapter markers and standard markers, already placed on the timeline, at the project's frame rate. If Final Cut saves a .fcpxmld package, open the package contents and use Info.fcpxml.

Can I make chapters from an SRT?

Yes. Each subtitle becomes a chapter, with the start of the line as the time and the text as the title. It works well with a hand-written SRT with one line per topic. Plain lines such as 12:05 Q&A, one per chapter, work too.

How do I import chapters back into Premiere or DaVinci?

Download the .xml and open it in Premiere with File > Import: it creates a sequence with one marker per chapter. For DaVinci, download the .edl and import it with Timelines > Import > Timeline Markers from EDL, on a timeline that starts at 01:00:00:00.

Upload a video or audio file, or paste a YouTube link. We transcribe it, split the recording by topic and hand you the chapters in description format, ready to paste.
