Transcription.

The transcript is the base of everything in FilmScribe: every line with its exact time and who said it. These articles show how to read and search the text, filter it, fix words, name the speakers, download the whole text or a single passage, favorite passages and translate.

  1. How to read and navigate the transcript

Open the file and click Transcription in the menu. Each line shows the time it starts and the name of the speaker. Click a line's time to listen from there; while it plays, the spoken word is highlighted. The player at the bottom controls the speed and skips back or ahead a few seconds.

  2. How to search for a word in the transcript

On the Transcription page, type the word or phrase in the Search in transcription field. Each result is highlighted in the text and the counter shows how many there are. Press Enter to go to the next one and Shift+Enter to go back to the previous one. Search ignores accents and capital letters.

  3. How to filter the transcript

On the Transcription page, click Filters. Choose Favorites only, a chapter, an emotion or a person, then click the button to see the results. The transcript then shows only the passages that match what you chose. Clear all brings back the whole text.

  4. How to fix a word in the transcript

On the Transcription page, select the wrong words of a passage with your mouse. In the menu that appears, click Edit text, fix it and click Save. The fix applies to the text on screen, the clip captions and the exports. The audio stays the same, and you can restore the original text whenever you want.

  5. How to rename speakers

On the Transcription page, click the speaker's name, such as Person 1. In the Customize Speaker window, type the name, choose a color if you like and click Save. The name changes across the whole transcript. Renaming speakers is part of Studio and Agency.

  6. How to identify speakers automatically

On the Transcription page, open Filters, go to People and click Identify automatically. We read the transcript and look for the moments when each person introduces themselves or is called by name. Then review the suggestions, check the ones you want and click Apply names.

  7. How to download the transcript as TXT or PDF

On the Transcription page, click Download and choose Download as complete .TXT or Download as complete .PDF. In the window, choose whether the file includes the speaker name, merges consecutive lines from the same person and shows the start time. The preview shows the result before you download.

  8. How to download a passage of the transcript

On the Transcription page, click the download button next to the passage. The menu offers Audio MP3, Copy text and, under Technical, Text TXT, PDF document, Subtitle SRT and Captions for Final Cut. For video, Create clip turns the passage into a clip.

  9. How to favorite passages and download them all at once

On the Transcription page, click the star on the passages you want to keep. Then click Download: the Favorites part of the menu downloads them all at once, as a single audio, separate audios, text, PDF or captions. For video, also as a single video or separate videos.

  10. How to translate the transcript

On the Transcription page, click Language and choose the language. The translation covers the transcript, the captions, the hooks and the chapters, and stays saved in the file; you can close the window while it runs. Afterwards, the same picker switches between the original and the translations.
