Scrubbing a whole ceremony for four lines
The ceremony runs 40 minutes, the vows run three and the highlight film uses twenty seconds of them. The old way is to listen to all of it, jot timecodes in a notes app and jump back into the timeline. Here the ceremony arrives as text, with every word timed. You read instead of scrub, and one click takes you to the exact frame.
Knowing who said what
Officiant, groom, bride, the maid of honor who read Corinthians, the uncle who grabbed the mic unannounced. We separate the voices and, on Studio and Agency, identify each speaker by name. The log reads the way you would write it by hand: name, timecode, line.
Picking the line that opens the film
Every highlight film needs an opening line, and it usually hides in the middle of the vows or the best man's toast. We tag the emotion of every line and, on Studio and Agency, score the strongest hooks. You compare the candidates side by side instead of trusting your memory of a twelve-hour day.
Rebuilding selects in a multicam project
Finding the line is half the job. The other half is getting those selects into the project you already synced to the lav audio, without breaking anything. Send your project's .xml or .fcpxml and you get the cut sequence back on top of it, with your angles, external audio and grade in place.
The couple wants something by Monday
The full film ships on your timeline, but the couple and their families want to post now. The vows come out as 9:16 vertical clips, with the frame following whoever speaks and captions burned in the style you pick. A Saturday wedding, from memory card to sneak peek
Saturday, 4 p.m., a barn venue outside town. Three cameras, a lav on the groom, another on the officiant and a separate feed from the DJ board. The ceremony runs 42 minutes and the toasts add another 25. It is an ordinary wedding, and that is exactly the kind that eats a whole week of logging.
Sunday morning you upload the A-cam file, the wide shot with everyone in frame. Before processing, you mark from the officiant's first words to the recessional. The processional and the music before it stay out and don't use any hours.
Within minutes the ceremony comes back as text, word by word, split into chapters: welcome, the reading from 1 Corinthians 13, Jake's vows, Emily's vows, the ring exchange, “you may kiss the bride”, the blessing. On Studio and Agency the speakers are already identified by name. If one slips through, you rename it once and the name holds for the whole ceremony.
Now it is reading, not scrubbing. Search “promise” and you land in the vows. Search “ring” and you land on the exchange. Every line worth keeping becomes a favorite with one click. The emotions tab shows the tone of each line, where it gets tender and where it turns playful. The hooks tab lists the strongest lines with a score, and that is where you look for the opener.
With your lines picked, you ask for a 4-minute paper edit. We build the sequence from the ceremony's own lines, with a beginning, a middle and an end: open on a line from Emily's vows, move through the reading and Jake's vows, land on the kiss. You reorder, drop a line, add another. The story is yours; we just hand you the first draft.
Time to cut. You export the paper edit as .xml for Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve, or as .fcpxml for Final Cut Pro. If the project is already built as a multicam, synced to the lav and graded, you send the project file and get the cut on top of it. You can set the handles before and after each select. What's left in the editor is the part that is actually yours: music, B-roll, pacing.
The toasts go in as a second upload, in the same project for the couple. Maid of honor, best man, the father of the bride: each with a name, each with the lines marked. If the wedding was in another language, say a destination wedding in Mexico, the transcript keeps up, because we handle 90+ languages with automatic detection.
Last, social. Emily's vows and the lightest moment from the best man become 9:16 vertical clips, with the frame following the speaker and burned-in captions. How do captioned vows work in a wedding video?
Captions come from the transcript itself, synced word by word. For social, vertical clips come out with burned-in captions in one of 235 styles and 54 fonts. For the full film, download an SRT with YouTube, TV or Netflix presets, or captions as FCPXML for Final Cut. Fix a name in the transcript and the captions follow.
Can I make a vertical teaser for Instagram?
Yes. With video, we suggest clips of the best moments, each scored from 0 to 100, and you can also cut by hand from any line. Clips export in 9:16, 1:1 or 4:5, with the frame following the speaker, burned-in captions and one of 48 templates. Paid plans have no watermark.
Does it work with background music?
It works better the cleaner the voice is. If the camera picked up a lot of music, upload the lav or soundboard audio instead: it covers the transcript, chapters, paper edit and export to your editor. Vertical clips need the video file. In captions, the hide sounds option removes music and applause tags.
Does the log export to Premiere, DaVinci and Final Cut with multicam?
Yes, on Studio, Agency and the trial. Export the paper edit, your favorite lines or a clip as .xml for Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve, or as .fcpxml for Final Cut Pro. Send your own project file, with multicam, external audio and grade, and the sequence comes back cut on top of it.
How long should a wedding highlight video be?
It depends on your package. A common setup is a highlight film of a few minutes plus a teaser under a minute for social. That is why the paper edit lets you choose the length, anywhere from 3 to 120 minutes: ask for 4 and we build the sequence to fit. Vertical clip length is set on upload: automatic, up to 30 s, 30 to 59 s, 60 to 89 s or 90 s to 3 min.
