Hours of interviews, days of vlog footage, a season of livestreams. Nobody rewatches everything to find one line. A transcript with a timestamp on every word, search and chapters take you straight there, and favorites keep what you want to use later.

Five kinds of footage, one path
Documentary. Six hours of interviews with commercial fishermen, shot over three trips. The description reads "interviews for a documentary about small-boat fishing". The transcript splits each subject; on Studio you rename each one and ask for a script at any length from 3 to 120 minutes, built from their own words. That's your paper edit, and it turns into a cut timeline for Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro. The timeline diagram helps you lay out the story before you log a single clip by hand.
Vlog. Forty minutes of a motorcycle trip, helmet cam plus a phone. With "motorcycle road trip vlog" as the description, clips arrive with a score and a moment type: humor at the flat tire, story in the talk with the diner owner. In vertical, the frame follows whoever is speaking, and one of 48 templates puts the clip title into the design.
Gaming commentary. A three-hour stream with play-by-play over the match. The description "gameplay with commentary" helps separate the big play from chatting with viewers. Templates in the gamer category give the channel its look, and the hide sounds option keeps noise tags out of the captions. For long streams, pick only the range that matters before processing and only that counts against your hours.
Commercial. Twelve takes of the same script with a brand spokesperson. The transcript lays the takes out, search finds the exact line and favorites mark the best ones. Your filler word list cleans the "um"s out of the final clip, and the SRT comes with the TV or Netflix preset at your project's frame rate.
Conversation. A panel discussion with four people. Lines are split by speaker, chapters separate the topics, and in a vertical clip with two speakers you choose between hard cuts and a split screen. Whatever the footage, the results land in the same place, organized in projects.

What is the custom content type?
It's the Other (Custom) option when you upload. You write a few words about the footage, like "documentary narration" or "explainer video", and we use that description to adjust what we look for in the transcript, emotions, hooks and clips.
When should I use custom instead of a ready-made type?
When none of the ready-made types describes your footage well. For sermons, podcasts, weddings, classes or interviews, pick the ready-made type, which is already tuned. For a documentary, a vlog, gaming commentary or a commercial, custom with a clear description works better.
Can I guide the clips in my own words?
Yes. Besides the content description, you choose the clip length, from up to 30 s to 3 minutes, and you can write text instructions like "only the parts about the boat". You can also make manual clips from any line in the transcript.
Does it work in other languages?
Transcription works in 90+ languages, with automatic language detection, so you don't set the language before uploading. On Studio and Agency, captions and text can be translated into 9 languages, including Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Japanese and Korean.
Can I transcribe a video from any website?
By link, we take YouTube: videos, Shorts, livestreams and youtu.be. For other sites, like Instagram or TikTok, download your own video and upload the file. We accept MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, OGA, OPUS, WEBM, MP4, MOV, AVI and MKV, with no length limit. After upload, the path is the same whatever the source.
Can I make clips from any video?
Yes, as long as the video has speech and you have the file or a YouTube link. We suggest 4 to 60 clips per video, each scored from 0 to 100, with burned-in captions in 9:16, 1:1, 4:5 or 16:9. From audio, excerpts come out as MP3. Only publish clips of footage you own or have permission to use.
What if my recording has no speech?
FilmScribe works from what's said. B-roll without voice or music-only footage won't produce a transcript, and everything else builds on it. If speech is there but in the background, upload it and check the result during the trial before you subscribe.
