What a good English transcript looks like

A transcript is only useful if you can find things in it. Ours splits the recording by speaker, puts a timestamp on every line and keeps the timing of every word. Click a sentence and the audio jumps to that moment, so checking a quote takes seconds instead of a full replay.

You don't set the language when you upload. We identify English from the recording itself, so a meeting that starts with small talk or a podcast with a cold open gets the same treatment. If a guest drops a short phrase in another language, it usually shows up in the language it was spoken.

Host 12:04 So what changed when you started recording every meeting?
Guest 12:09 Honestly, we stopped arguing about who said what. We just search the transcript.

What people transcribe in English

Most of it is work and study: interviews for an article or a research project, recorded lectures and courses, conference talks, client calls and team meetings, and podcasts that someone would rather read and search than listen to again.

For an English video on YouTube, paste the link instead of downloading the file, live streams included. The transcript keeps the timestamps, so you can jump back to the exact moment in the video.

  • An interview you need to quote word for word
  • A lecture or course to study with the text next to it
  • A keynote that will become a summary, a post or a newsletter
  • A podcast episode to search, skim and pull quotes from
  • A meeting where you need a record of what was agreed

Accents, names and jargon: how to get a cleaner transcript

Audio quality matters more than accent. A microphone close to the speaker and little background noise make the biggest difference, for American, British, Indian or Australian English and for people who speak English as a second language. When several people talk at once, overlapping speech is the hardest part to separate, so a little turn-taking goes a long way.

Proper names, acronyms and industry jargon are the usual misses in any transcript. Fix them in the text once and the fix carries over to the TXT, the PDF and the captions. On Studio and Agency, you can also rename speakers and ask us to identify each speaker by name.

What each file contains

TXT and PDF carry the English text with speaker names and the start time of each line, both optional when you download. SRT carries English captions, with TV, Netflix and YouTube presets and the frame rate of your project, ready for YouTube or your editor.

Need the same content in another language? On Studio and Agency, we translate the transcript, captions and chapters into 9 languages, among them Spanish, Portuguese, French and German, keeping the timing of every line.

Frequently asked questions

How do I transcribe English audio to text?

Pick the recording on this page, create a free account and upload the file or paste a YouTube link. We detect English on our own and return the text with speakers and a timestamp on every line. Download TXT, PDF or SRT.

Does it work with British, Indian or non-native accents?

It works with the common English accents, including people who speak English as a second language. What affects the result most is audio quality: a close microphone and little noise count for more than the accent.

Can I transcribe an English YouTube video?

Yes. Paste the video link, live streams included, and we transcribe it without you downloading anything. The transcript keeps the timestamps so you can go straight back to the right moment.

Can I translate the English transcript?

Yes, on Studio and Agency. We translate the transcript, captions and chapters into 9 languages, such as Spanish, Portuguese and French, keeping the timing of every line. Transcription itself is on every plan.

Is English transcription free?

On the trial, yes. It lasts 3 days or 1 hour of media, whichever ends first, and it starts with a card on file. Cancel in the app before it ends and you pay nothing. After that, transcription is included in every plan, with no extra fee per language.

Can I caption my video with this transcript?

Yes. Download the English SRT to upload to YouTube or open in your editor. For video, captions can also be burned into vertical clips.
