Interview transcription with speakers and timestamps
In an interview, what matters is who said what, and when. We separate the voices, and every line arrives with the speaker and the time it started. For a journalist, that means quoting without worry: before a sentence goes into quotation marks, you click it and hear exactly that moment. For a researcher, it means finding the answer to question 7 without replaying the whole recording.
Lines arrive as Person 1 and Person 2. On Studio and Agency, you name each person, and we also suggest names from the moment people introduce themselves. When no name is said, we suggest the role, such as the interviewer.
How to transcribe interviews for a thesis or qualitative research
Settle the convention before you review: verbatim, with hesitations and repetitions, or clean, with speech tidied up without changing the meaning. We write the words that were spoken, and the finishing your committee expects, like marking long pauses, laughter or overlapping speech, goes in during review. Editing the text never touches the audio, and you can go back to the original.
To anonymize, replace a participant's name with a code, like P3, right in the transcript. Keep the consent form with the file. If the interview was in another language, it comes out in the language spoken; on Studio and Agency, you can translate the transcript afterwards.
| For | How to download |

| Coding in research software | TXT with speakers, grouped by person |
| News story or feature | TXT without times, for editing |
| Sending to the interviewee to check |
Phone, video call or in person: what changes in the audio
In person, the best result comes from a mic close to both people: a phone in the middle of the table, in airplane mode so it won't ring, or a lavalier mic on each of you. Record a ten-second test before you start and listen to it.
On a recorded call, both voices usually share one channel, and lines still separate when people take turns. A bad connection drops syllables, and that shows in the text. Where both voices talk at once, check by listening before you quote.
- Ask for consent to record at the start, with the recorder already running.
- Say the date and the interviewee's name first: it helps tell who is who.
- Keep coffee machines, fans and open windows away from the mic.
More than interview transcription. Every quote one click from the audio.

Frequently asked questions
How do I transcribe a recorded interview?
Pick the recording on this page, create a free account and upload the file. We separate interviewer and interviewee, timestamp every line, and you download TXT or PDF, with or without names and times.
Does the transcript separate questions and answers?
Yes. Voices arrive separated on every plan, each line with the speaker and time. Giving each person their real name, or getting our suggested name or role, is part of Studio and Agency.
Can I download the transcript as a Word file?
We don't export .docx. The TXT opens straight in Word and Google Docs, ready for whatever formatting you want, and the PDF works for appendices or sending for review. If needed, paste the TXT into your research document.
What about an interview with three people?
Each voice becomes its own speaker: Person 1, Person 2 and Person 3. They separate best when people take turns. Where everyone talks at once, check by listening.
Can I hide the interviewee's name?
Yes. Edit the text and replace the name with a code, like P3. The change carries into the exports, and the original audio stays exactly as you uploaded it.
Can I transcribe an interview from YouTube?
Yes. Paste the video link in the YouTube link tab, no download needed. It works for interviews on podcasts, news channels or livestreams. If the interview is one segment of a long video, set the start and end before processing: only that range counts toward your hours. Private videos can't be imported.
How much does interview transcription cost?
The trial lasts 3 days or 1 hour of recordings, with a card on file. Two half-hour interviews fit in it. If you don't cancel, the plan you picked starts, with 10, 20 or 35 hours a month, from R$ 59 (BRL).
