Split video into equal parts, by length, by size or where you mark.

To split a video into parts, choose the file and pick how to cut it: equal parts, pieces of up to 60 seconds for Stories, a maximum file size or the points you mark. The parts come out without re-encoding, at the original quality, and you download them one by one or all together in a ZIP.

How to split a video for Instagram Stories and WhatsApp Status

Instagram Stories take up to 60 seconds per story, and WhatsApp Status takes up to 90 seconds per video in the current app. On phones with an outdated WhatsApp, the limit may still be 60 or 30 seconds. When a video runs longer, the app trims it or asks you to pick a section, and the rest is lost. Splitting first lets you decide where each part ends and post them all in sequence.

Choose the max length and every part comes out at up to that length, the last one shorter. Without re-encoding, each part ends on the last keyframe before the limit, so none goes over the length you chose. A 3 minute video for Stories becomes 3 parts of up to 60 seconds; for the current Status, 2 parts of up to 90 seconds.

Split a video without losing quality: what is a keyframe?

A compressed video stores full pictures, the keyframes, every so often, and only the changes in between. A part copied without re-encoding has to start on a keyframe, or its first pictures would have nothing to be built from. That is why, in this mode, each cut lands on the keyframe nearest the point you asked for. In phone videos they come every 1 or 2 seconds, and the page shows your file's spacing before you split.

When the cut has to land on the exact second, turn on exact cut. Each part is then decoded and re-encoded as H.264 with AAC audio, starting and ending exactly at the requested time. It takes longer and re-compresses the picture, at a bitrate close to the original's. For Stories and Status, the copy is usually enough: the app re-compresses on upload anyway.

How to split a long sermon, class or livestream into parts

For a service, a class or a livestream, equal parts rarely make sense: it is better to cut where the topic changes. Use marked points. Play the preview, stop where the next part starts and press M or the mark button, or type the time, like 32:15. Each mark becomes a cut, and the list shows the start, end and length of every part.

To send by email or through an app with a file limit, use the max size. We add up the real size of each stretch's data, so you can be sure of parts of up to 16, 25, 50 or 100 MB without re-encoding. If you want the whole video smaller instead of several parts, compress the video.

  • Equal parts: divides the total length by the number of parts.
  • Max length: best for Stories, Status and Reels.
  • Max size: best for email and apps with a limit.
  • Marked points: one topic, song or moment per part.

Frequently asked questions

How do I split a video into 60 second parts?

Choose the video, keep the max length mode and pick 60 s. The list shows how many parts you will get and the length of each. Click split video and download the parts separately or all in a ZIP.

How long can a WhatsApp Status video be?

In the current app, up to 90 seconds per video. The limit went from 30 to 60 seconds and then to 90; on phones with an outdated WhatsApp it may still stop at 60 or 30. If your app trims the video, split it into 60 or 30 second parts.

Why are the parts not exactly the length I asked for?

Without re-encoding, each part has to start on a keyframe, and the cut moves to the nearest one. No part goes over the max length you chose. To cut on the exact second, turn on exact cut, which re-encodes the parts.

Does splitting a video lower the quality?

Not in the default mode: the parts are copied with the same pictures and sound as the original. Only exact cut re-encodes, as H.264 at a bitrate close to the original file's, and the difference is usually hard to see.

Can I download all the parts at once?

Yes. After splitting, the download all button builds a ZIP with the numbered parts, like talk_part-01-of-04.mp4. If the parts add up to more than 4 GB, download them one by one.

Is there a watermark or a usage limit?

No. The parts come out with no watermark, no sign-up and no usage limit. For videos of several gigabytes, downloading the parts one by one is usually easier than one ZIP with all of them.
