How to speed up a WhatsApp voice note
WhatsApp plays voice notes at 1.5x and 2x, but only inside the app. To keep a sped up copy, forward it to someone or play it in the car, save the file from your phone's share menu or from WhatsApp Web. It comes as an OPUS or OGG file, and this page opens both directly, no conversion needed.
Pick 1.5x for relaxed listening or 2x to get through a long message. Because the pitch stays the same, the person still sounds like themselves, just talking faster. The file comes out as an MP3 that plays on any phone and can go back into WhatsApp as audio.
| Speed | A 10 minute file becomes | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| 0.75x | 13:20 | Transcribing by hand, language practice |
| 1.25x | 8:00 | Lectures and sermons, without fatigue |
| 1.5x | 6:40 | Voice notes, podcasts |
| 2x | 5:00 | Reviewing something you already heard |
Speed up audio without changing pitch, or change both?
In keep the pitch mode, we split the sound into pieces a few milliseconds long and fit them back together, lined up, closer or further apart. The timing changes and the height of the voice doesn't. This is the right mode for speech: lectures, sermons, interviews, podcasts and voice notes.
In change the pitch too mode, the whole recording plays faster or slower, like a tape or a record. At 2x the voice goes up an octave and gets the familiar chipmunk sound; at 1.5x it rises about seven semitones; at 0.5x it drops an octave and sounds deep. Use it for effects, memes or slowed and sped up versions of a song.
- Between 1.25x and 1.5x speech stays comfortable for most listeners.
- Above 2x speech sounds less natural, even with the pitch kept.
- On music with a strong beat, keeping the pitch can add a slight echo to drum hits.
How to slow down audio to transcribe or study
Slowing down helps you copy speech word for word, follow a strong accent, practice pronunciation in another language or learn a song by ear. With the pitch kept, 0.75x sounds like someone speaking slowly, not like a deep, dragging tape.
Use the play from slider to jump to the hard part and listen to the 20 second preview before exporting the whole file. If what you really need is the text of the recording, a transcript gets you there faster than listening to everything slowly.
Which files work and what you get
Audio in MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, OPUS and FLAC, plus MP4, MOV and WebM video: for video, we change the speed of the soundtrack and you download the audio only. Long recordings, like a three hour class, work too, with a percentage, the time left and a cancel button.
The result keeps the original sample rate and channels: mono stays mono, stereo stays stereo. Choose MP3 at 192 kbps to listen and share, or 16-bit WAV to edit without losing anything. No watermark, no sign-up, no usage limit.
| Format | Use it for | Size per minute |
|---|---|---|
| MP3, 192 kbps | Listening, sharing, publishing | About 1.4 MB |
| WAV, 16-bit | Editing and mixing | About 11 MB (stereo) |
More than a speed changer. Read what was said instead of hearing it all.
Frequently asked questions
How do I speed up audio without changing the voice?
Choose the file, leave keep the pitch selected and drag the slider to 1.25x, 1.5x or 2x. The voice stays at the same pitch and simply talks faster. Play the 20 second preview, then download MP3 or WAV.
Can I speed up a WhatsApp voice note and send it back?
Yes. Save the voice note from the share menu or WhatsApp Web, choose the OPUS or OGG file here and download the sped up MP3. You can send that MP3 on WhatsApp again, by email, or keep it on your phone.
How do I slow down audio without changing the pitch?
Drag the slider below 1x, for example to 0.75x or 0.5x, with keep the pitch selected. Speech gets slower without getting deeper. It helps with transcribing by hand, following an accent or learning a song.
What are the fastest and slowest speeds?
From 0.5x to 3x, in steps of 0.05. The new length shows under the slider before you export: a 10 minute file at 2x becomes 5 minutes, and at 0.5x it becomes 20 minutes.
Does changing the speed lower the quality?
Between 0.75x and 1.5x speech sounds natural. At the extremes, especially above 2x, small artifacts appear, and music with a strong beat can get a slight echo. WAV adds no new compression; MP3 is encoded at 192 kbps.
Does it work with video?
Yes. Choose an MP4, MOV or WebM video and we change the speed of its soundtrack. You get the audio only, as MP3 or WAV, at the new length.
Is there a size limit or a watermark?
There is no watermark, no sign-up and no usage limit. Recordings several hours long work; the bar shows the percentage and the time left, and you can cancel at any point.
