Bible study transcription turns a recorded small group, Sunday school class or midweek study into text, with who said what and when. With FilmScribe, you upload the video or just the audio and we transcribe it word by word, split it into chapters by passage and give you a PDF for your group. From video, you also get captioned clips.

Why a good study fades by Sunday. And what stays when it turns into notes.

Whoever missed it gets nothing.

The conversation is the best part of small group, and it doesn't fit in a 90-minute recording nobody plays in the group chat. With the transcript as a PDF and chapters by passage, anyone who missed it can catch up in ten minutes and walk in next week ready.

You can't lead and take notes at the same time.

Whoever guides the discussion has no free hand to write down the great question someone asked or the story someone shared. Record the study and we keep the record: every line split by speaker, with the exact time.

Passages blur together.

The study starts in Romans 8, detours to Genesis 50 to talk about Joseph and comes back. A week later nobody remembers when that happened. Search the transcript for "Joseph" and it's right there, and chapters show where each passage starts.

The series ends up scattered.

Eight weeks of study become eight recordings lost across different chats. In FilmScribe each series gets a project, each meeting lives inside with its transcript, chapters and favorite lines, and search runs across all of it.

How FilmScribe turns a recorded study into group notes

  1. 01

    Upload the recording

A Voice Memos file in M4A, an MP3, a video in MP4 or MOV, or the YouTube link if you streamed it. Pick Bible study as the content type and, if you like, just the range of the study itself.

  2. 02

    We organize the meeting

A word-by-word transcript, speakers split apart, chapters titled by passage and theme, the emotion of each line and the key moments of the conversation.

  3. 03

    Share it with your group

Download the PDF for the group, send the MP3 snippet that answered this week's big question and, if you filmed it, post a short captioned clip.

One Thursday night small group, from phone to PDF

Eight people in a living room, Bibles open to Romans 8, and a phone on the coffee table recording in Voice Memos. The meeting runs 1 h 24 min: prayer, the reading, a discussion that bounces between chapter 8 and the story of Joseph, and prayer requests at the end. Mark, the leader, uploads the M4A to FilmScribe before he leaves the driveway.

When processing finishes, the whole evening is in text, every line tagged by person and time. Chapters split the study by the passage being discussed: "Romans 8:1: no condemnation", "Flesh and Spirit", "All things work together". Prayer requests land in their own chapter, and Mark decides to leave that part out of the group notes.

He searches for "Joseph" and finds, in seconds, the moment Pete shared how verse 28 finally made sense after losing his job. He marks it as a favorite line, downloads the PDF with the reading and the discussion, and posts it in the group chat with one line: "for anyone who couldn't make it". Pete's two minutes go along as an MP3.

The next Wednesday, when the pastor teaches the midweek study in the sanctuary, it's filmed and streamed on YouTube. Then the same upload also gives you vertical captioned clips, each with a score and a moment type, for the church Instagram. On Studio, the study also becomes a mind map of the main ideas, a good way to open the next week of the series.

Frequently asked questions

How do I turn a recorded Bible study into notes?

Upload the audio or video, or paste the YouTube link. We transcribe it word by word with speakers and timestamps and break the meeting into chapters. Download it as PDF or TXT and share it with your group.

Can I create discussion questions from a study?

Chapters with titles and timestamps already read like an outline of the meeting. On Studio and Agency, diagrams map out the ideas, and the connector lets you ask ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini for discussion questions and a summary based on the transcript.

Can I make short clips for social?

If the study was filmed, clips come ready: vertical, captioned, with a 0 to 100 score and a moment type. Pick a caption style and download. An audio-only recording gives you the transcript, chapters and MP3 snippets, but not video clips.

How do I organize a study series?

Create a project for the series and upload each meeting into it. Search finds a word or a name across every meeting, and favorite lines keep the moments you want to come back to when the series ends.

Does it work with a phone recording?

Yes. We take MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, OPUS and other audio formats, plus MP4, MOV, AVI and MKV, so a Voice Memos file or a group chat audio works as is. There is no length limit; what counts is your plan's monthly hours.

Does the transcript show each person's name?

On every plan, lines are split by person. On Studio and Agency you can rename each speaker, and speakers can also be identified by name automatically. That way the group PDF shows each person's name instead of a generic label.

Does it work for Sunday school and seminary classes?

Yes. A Sunday school class, a seminary lecture or the pastor's midweek teaching follow the same path: a transcript with speakers, chapters by topic and a PDF for the class. In a long class, chapters and search let students jump straight to the part they want to review instead of replaying the whole thing.
