Wedding video pricing calculator your package price from your hours, crew and costs.

To work out what to charge for a wedding video, add up the hours of the day, the edit of each deliverable (highlight, feature film, teaser), the client calls, revisions and travel. Multiply by what an hour costs you, add the second shooter and expenses, then build in taxes and margin. The calculator does the math and drafts the quote.

Your month

What your work has to pay for every month, even when the calendar is empty.

Your own pay after costs, like a salary.
Software, internet, phone, rent, insurance, accountant, storage.
Cameras, lenses, audio, lights, computer: what it would cost to replace it all.
How many years until that gear needs replacing.
The share of what you bill that goes to taxes, such as income and self-employment tax. Check the number with your accountant.
Profit and a cushion for slow months, surprises and upgrades.
Only hours a client pays for. Emails, social media and admin stay out.

How much to charge for wedding videography: the hours nobody sees

Couples see the day: eight, ten, twelve hours of coverage. Your price has to see the rest. Before the wedding come consults, a venue walkthrough, calls with the planner and the day's timeline. After it come offloading and organizing cards, syncing audio from several sources, picking music, editing each deliverable and working through revisions. At many weddings, the edit takes more hours than the shoot.

That's why the calculator asks for edit hours per deliverable instead of one number. A short highlight, a long feature with the ceremony and speeches, and a social teaser all move at different paces, and some couples only want part of it. With the hours split out, you see what each deliverable adds to the price and build packages that work for you.

  • Consults with the couple, venue walkthrough and timeline
  • Coverage: from getting ready to the send-off
  • Travel and lodging when the wedding is far away
  • Backups, audio sync and footage organization
  • Highlight, feature film and teaser edits
  • The revision rounds in your contract

How to price a highlight film, feature film and teaser

Each deliverable becomes a quote line: its hours times your rate, with taxes and margin already inside. If the couple only wants the highlight, set the feature and teaser to 0 and watch the price change. If they want the full feature, the price goes up by exactly the edit hours it costs you.

This lets you answer discount requests with numbers: dropping the teaser saves the teaser's hours, not a random amount. It also shows what a bigger package has to cost so it doesn't come out of your pocket.

Quote lineWhere it comes from
Pre-productionConsult and walkthrough hours × your rate
ShootCoverage hours × your rate
Highlight, feature, teaserEdit hours of each × your rate

Second shooter, travel and wedding expenses

What you pay other people goes in the crew field as a total: second shooter, assistant, drone pilot. Costs that only exist for this wedding go in other expenses: mileage, tolls, lodging, a rented lens or recorder, licensed music. Both go through the same tax and margin math so neither comes out of your pay.

Hours on the road are yours and count as hours. A destination wedding often adds a travel day; if it isn't in the price, you're the one paying for it.

How many weddings a month cover your costs

The calculator shows how many weddings like this one fit in your billable hours for the month. If that's more than your real calendar holds, the price is too low or the edit hours are too high. Since wedding season isn't the same all year, run the math with the hours of an average month, not a peak one.

The calculator's example numbers only show the method. They are not market rates: your package comes from your month and your pace.

Frequently asked questions

How do I work out what to charge for a wedding video?

Add up the wedding's hours (consults, coverage, travel, each deliverable's edit and revisions), multiply by what an hour costs you, add the second shooter and expenses, and divide by (1 minus taxes minus margin). Your hourly cost is your month divided by the hours you bill.

What's the average price of a wedding videographer?

This page doesn't give an average, because an average says nothing about your costs. Two videographers selling the same package can have very different edit hours, crew and expenses. The price that works is the one that comes from your hours.

How do I price the highlight and the feature film separately?

Put each one's edit hours in its own field. The quote shows a line for each deliverable. To drop one from the package, set its hours to 0 and the price changes by the hours it costs.

Does the second shooter go into the package price?

Yes. Enter what you pay them in total in the crew field. The calculator runs it through the same tax and margin math, and it shows up as the crew line on the quote.

How should I charge for a destination wedding?

Put the travel hours in travel and the mileage, tolls and lodging in other expenses. If the trip takes a full day, count those hours too: they're hours you can't sell to anyone else.

Can I cut the time it takes to edit a wedding film?

You can shorten the part where you hunt for lines. With vows, speeches and toasts transcribed word by word and timed, you read and pick instead of watching hours of footage. Then rerun the math with your new edit hours.

Charge for the whole wedding. And edit the film in fewer hours.

Upload the wedding. We transcribe vows and speeches with every line timed, mark the moments and suggest captioned clips. You review and finish in your editor.
