How to translate Portuguese subtitles to Spanish
- 01
Upload the Portuguese video
A video or audio file, or a YouTube link. We detect Portuguese on our own and transcribe it with speakers and timestamps.
- 02
Review and pick Spanish
Fix names and industry terms in the transcript, then translate into Spanish. We'll email you when it's done.
- 03
Download or burn it in
Download the Spanish SRT or FCPXML, or render a vertical clip with Spanish captions in one of 235 styles.
Spanish captions that keep the original timing
We translate captions that are already in sync with the Portuguese speech. Every Spanish cue comes in and goes out at the same point as the original, so there's no dragging captions around the timeline or checking timing line by line.
Download it as SRT, with TV, Netflix and YouTube presets and your project's frame rate, or as FCPXML to drop straight into Final Cut. If your source is video, the Spanish captions can also be burned into a vertical clip, in the same style you use for the Portuguese version.
Who translates Portuguese videos into Spanish
For creators in Brazil, Spanish is the nearest second market: the rest of Latin America is next door, large and culturally close. If the content is already recorded in Portuguese, Spanish subtitles open it to a new audience without a second shoot.
Because the transcript, chapters and hooks are translated too, one upload covers the captions, the video description and the choice of which moments become Spanish clips.
- A Brazilian pastor's sermon, subtitled for a sister church in Colombia
- An online course recorded in Portuguese, sold to students in Mexico and Argentina
- Podcast clips with Spanish captions for Reels and TikTok
- A webinar or keynote for a Spanish-speaking sales team
- An interview for a channel with viewers across several countries
False friends: what to review before you publish
Portuguese and Spanish look alike, and that's the trap. Some nearly identical words mean very different things, and one of those slips stands out in a subtitle far more than a clumsy sentence. The translation gets the meaning right most of the time, but a read-through with the video playing is worth it.
Before translating, fix proper names, brands and technical terms in the Portuguese transcript. The fix carries into the Spanish captions, so you don't correct the same mistake in two languages.
| Word | In Portuguese | In Spanish |
|---|---|---|
| esquisito / exquisito | strange | delicious, refined |
| embaraçada / embarazada | embarrassed | pregnant |
| oficina | repair shop | office |
| borracha | eraser | drunk |
| polvo | octopus | dust |
Reading speed, and what each file contains
Spanish usually takes about the same space as Portuguese, so translated captions rarely overflow. Fast speakers are the exception, so check reading speed: the usual TV and streaming reference for adult viewers is 17 to 20 characters per second, and our free reading speed checker shows it cue by cue.
Each translation is saved with the file. Download it again whenever you need it, switch the selector to read the transcript in Spanish, and delete and redo the translation if you want a fresh pass.
More than Spanish subtitles. The same video, in more formats.

Frequently asked questions
How do I translate a Portuguese video's subtitles into Spanish?
Pick the video on this page, create an account and upload the file or paste the YouTube link. We transcribe it in Portuguese and, on Studio or Agency, translate the captions into Spanish with the same timing. Download SRT, FCPXML or a captioned clip.
Can I translate a Portuguese SRT file I already have?
Not directly. Translation starts from the video or audio, not a standalone SRT: upload the recording, let the transcript finish and pick Spanish. That way the translated captions follow the speech. If you only need to change an SRT's format, use our free subtitle converter.
Do the Spanish subtitles stay in sync?
Yes. Every Spanish cue comes in and goes out at the same time as the Portuguese one, because we translate captions that are already in sync. For fast speakers, check reading speed with our characters per second checker.
Does the free trial include Spanish translation?
Yes, on the Studio and Agency trial, which lasts 3 days or 1 hour of media, whichever ends first. The Pro trial doesn't translate. The trial starts with a card on file; cancel in the app before it ends and you pay nothing.
What gets translated besides the subtitles?
The full transcript, the chapter titles and the hooks, with the same speakers and timestamps. Switch languages in the selector to read everything in Spanish, which helps with the video description and with picking clips.
Can I translate the same video into other languages too?
Yes. One file can hold several translations, across 9 languages such as English, French and Italian. Each one is saved, ready to download again or redo whenever you want.
